Johnny Depp and wife Amber Heard have reportedly arrived in Australia to face accusations the actress spirited the couple's Yorkshire terriers into the country illegally last year.

The superstar couple landed in Queensland Sunday morning, according to theAustralian Broadcasting Corporation, ahead of the trial this week.

Heard faces charges of sneaking the couple's pooches — Pistol and Boo — past Australian customs, and of falsifying documents. The incident occurred while Depp was in Australia to film the latest installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.

Australia has strict quarantine laws to prevent the spread of diseases such as rabies. Bringing pets into the country involves applying for a permit and a quarantine of at least 10 days. If found guilty Heard could face up to 10 years prison and a fine of $77,000, according to The Courier Mail. She said last year she would plead not guilty.

The incident gained worldwide attention and mockery when Australia's now-Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce, threatened to euthanize the dogs if they didn't "bugger off" back to the U.S. within 72 hours.

The Guardian ran a live "dog death" countdown ticker, while Joyce was criticized for over-reacting and threatening foreign investment in the Australian film industry.

An unimpressed Depp said he would "avoid" Australia after the incident, and later joked that he'd eaten the dogs under orders from Joyce, who he referred to as "some kind of sweaty, big-gutted man from Australia."

But whatever animosity existed between the pair appears to have somewhat dissipated. Depp told NBC's Australian partner Channel 7 that he would "absolutely" return to Australia and that Joyce had "invited me to stay at his house, for some reason."
